Drug Uses: Chloromycetin (chloramphenicol) Otic is indicated for the treatment of surface infections of the external auditory canal caused by susceptible strains of various gram-positive and gram-negative organisms including: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Hemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aerobacter aerogenes, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Proteus species.
Deeper infections should be treated with appropriate systemic antibiotics. How to Use Chloromycetin
: This medication is for topical or vaginal use only. To apply to the skin, first clean the wound as directed and gently dry the area. Apply a thin layer of ointment and cover the area with gauze or a bandage as recommended. Change the bandage 1 to 3 times a day as directed. For maximal effects, the wound must be cleaned before applying new ointment. For vaginal use, insert the prescribed amount of ointment deep into the vagina once a night as directed. Do not apply this in large amounts or use this more often than directed. Wash hands well after applying the ointment.

Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as remembered and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not double-up on the dose in order to catch up.
